Rev. Flora J. Anderson…
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
(Psalm 34:4)
Rev. Flora J. Anderson was born and raised in Kingstree, South Carolina. She was christened at Wilson Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church in Kingstree at the age of three months. Attending church was mandatory, as well as participating in church related activities; such as church clerk, choir member, and drama guild.
She was born again of the spirit in 1977, through receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of eternal life. On the sixth day of November 1977, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; and received into fellowship at Providence Baptist Church, where she served on the Pastor’s Aid Ministry and the Finance Reconciliation Committee.
During her employment as a business office supervisor, she continued her education by attending Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania; earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch University; and this degree being coupled with a Master of Social Work degree from Temple University, as well as a Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

She was ordained as a Baptist Minister on September 18, 2005, and currently serves as the Senior Pastor at New Horizon Baptist Church. She was installed on Sunday, September 21, 2008. Rev. Flora J. Anderson, a compassionate, works diligently to bridge the gap between church and community. She has opened the church doors to the local community representatives for meetings as well as health and wellness classes for seniors and people in general. These classes were beneficial for those interested in obtaining optimal health through proper nutrition and exercise. There is the establishment of Thanksgiving dinners and “Holy Hot Dog” day in which the community is encouraged to attend. There are free clothing giveaways and an on-going shoe drive campaign. A toy giveaway is held every Christmas for families less fortunate in struggling to provide a traditional Christmas.
Rev. Anderson organized the New Horizon Baptist Church Male Chorus (The Men in Gray) and developed a New Member’s class. New ministries formed under her leadership are: The Reach Out and Touch Ministry; the Prayer Team Ministry, reorganization of the Pastor’s Aid and Willing Workers’ Ministries, and a Seamless Summer Meals Program. Additional participation included an Easter Outreach program which provided meals for families in need. She has also organized a duo of deacons who serve as graders for the Gospel Express Prison Ministry.
We dedicate ourselves to continue His work for the uplift of persons---individually and collectively---that is and shall be our highest priority. Love is here to stay.
“Essentially, she considers herself a child of the “King.”
Reverend Anderson has one son, Edward H. Anderson, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA.
